    If you want to update your Twitter via text you can register your mobile number online (Settings -> Phone and IM). Once you have your mobile number verified you can send updates by sending a text message to +447624801423. It costs a lot to update this way though.

    Mobile Web

    If you have GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA enabled phone and connection available, and have a simple browser on your phone, you can update via http://m.twitter.com

    If you have phones with more advanced browsers (Safari, Nokia Series 60, etc) you can also access http://www.twitter.com directly.

    I tried to update my twitter today using the GTalk interface on my Blackberry, running GPRS/EDGE, and it works!
